I direct the attention of the House Members to the fact that Monday. October 1. is the 365th anniversary of the arrival in Jamestown. Va.. of the first Polish immigrants on this continent. The historic event is being commemorated across the country by PolishAmerican organizations. I am very gratified by the cooperation of so many Members of the House who have joined me this afternoon in commenting on this historic occasion. As we approach the Bicentennial year of our Nation. I am hopeful that there will be a vigorous. sustained interest in the history of our country. All of us recognize the great contribution that immigrants have made over the years to the building of America. We also recognize the very unique development of American culture in which the contribution of diverse peoples have been effectively integrated into the American way of life. The first Polish settlers arrived at Jamestown.
