The atrocities perpetrated against the captive peoples who fell prey to Russian postwar colonialism were indeed a horrendous international crime. a crime against humanity which will remain a blight on human history. Terrorism. mass deportations. and comprehensive subjugation were the instruments by which entire nations of Eastern Europe were forced to submit to superimposed political structures directed from Moscow. As a budding ideology. communism at one time appealed to many equalitarian idealists throughout the world by promising rapid development to impoverished nations. However. this ideology was soon disrobed. shocking the world with its naked brutality and injustice. and with the criminal methods employed by Soviet leaders to establish and insure continued Soviet domination of the captive nations.
