Our bombing campaign since the Vietnam ceasefire has averaged some $86 million per month. based on figures from last spring. and the 6week extension will cost the taxpayer over $125 million. In addition. there has been the irreplacable cost of American airmen lost in action. In the last 5 months. and unnecessary. the United States has lost 10 aircraft over Cambodia and Laos with 14 pilots killed and 4 missing. I need not dwell. Mr. President. on the tragic toll inflicted on the Cambodian people. We cannot even guess at the numbers of lives which will be lost and disrupted. the villages and crops destroyed. the refugees driven from their homes. by the rain of bombs in these weeks.
