Most Israelis Mr. Premack interviewed believe that the nation is now a "model melting pot." As one Israeli put it: One day. no one will remember where anyone came from. There will be one cohesive people. Mr. Premack also discusses the poverty which exists among the new immigrants. particularly with regard to the housing shortage unable to meet the surge of people.
