Their hopes were cruelly dashed. as Castros government usurped one human right after another. All facets of lifecultural. economic. political. socialhave declined. leaving many Cubans with no choice but to flee their homeland in search of a safe and free land in which to raise their families. About 1/2 million Cubans have immigrated to the United States alone. The Communist regime has succeeded in suppressing many outward expressions of freedom. but it cannot dampen the spirit of freedom which continues to thrive. The determination of each individual to rule his own life still lives in the hearts of the Cuban people.
