Mr. Speaker. on May 10 I informed the House that the Department of Labor had refused to supply subcommittee No. 1. immigration and nationality. of the Committee on the Judiciary. with information it needs to write new legislation to govern immigration from the Western Hemisphere. At that time I stated that the Departments original response to the committees invitation that it send a representative to testify was that it needed more time to prepare its statement so the committee delayed its hearing on this matter for 3 weeks. When that time limit had almost expired. the committee was informed that the Department would not send a witness to testify because it was the Secretary of Labors opinion that the committee had gotten all of the information it needs from other witnesses.
