Session #93 · 1973–75

Speech #930015152

It is shocking that citizens of these two countries should be denied basic human rights simply because they are Jews. The rulers of these two countries seem determined not only to wipe Israel from the map. but to wage a domestic campaign. the only effect of which would be virtual extermination of their own citizens who cling to their Jewish faith. My resolution. which I hope all of our colleagues will join with me in supporting. calls for the President of the United States to condemn the antiSemitic policies of those governments. and that the Attorney General should use his authority to make easier emigration of Jewish citizens of those countries to the United States. I believe that passage of this resolution. and action by the Federal authorities called for in it. would serve notice that we will not complacently sit by while this persecution of our Jewish brethren takes place.
