Mr. Speaker. 50 years ago. a group of 60 people of Italian descent formed an organization. This organization. which was the first of its kind in Hartford County. was designed to aid Italian immigrants in establishing a life in America by assisting them in times of financial need. This organization assists members of the Floridian Society who become widowers and orphans. The Society also helps other citizens who are unable to cope with medical expenses. and also aids other philanthropic and charitable activities. The Floridian Society is not restricted to the Hartford area. but has a membership which stretches nationwide.
