Mr. Speaker. I wish to advise the House that Subcommittee No. 1. Immigration and Nationality. Committee on the Judiciary. will hold hearIngs on H.R. 12184. a bill to eliminate racketeering in the sale and distribution of cigarettes and to assist State and local governments in the enforcement of cigarette taxes. These hearings will be held in room 2237 Rayburn Office Building at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday. September 28. Testimony will be heard from Members of Congress. representatives from the Department of Justice and representatives from various States which are vitally interested in this problem. The legislation would prohibit the transportation of contraband cigarettes in interstate commerce and would make it a felony punishable by a fine of up to $10.000 and/or imprisonment for not more than 2 years.
