Mr. Chairman. at the appropriate time and perhaps in a special order later this week. I shall take the time to outline what the Special Studies Subcommittee of the House Committee on Government Operations. which it is my honor to Chair. has done on this problem of illegal aliens in this country. It would take too long at this time to enumerate or describe in detail our activity. I will say that the committee has asked the General Accounting Office to make a thorough study in the Kansas City area as well as the Boston and Los Angeles areas. and to extend its study to include Chicago. New York. and Miami. At another time I will outline the tentative recommendations of GAO and also point out the need for further hearings and further legislation. on the matter of illegal aliens. For the time being. I join not only in the support of the amendment by the gentleman from Texas . but also support the content of H.R. 16188. which I hope receives the overwhelming approval of the House today.
