In the past year or two great progress has been made toward peaceful coexistance between Israel and the Arab nations. especially along the Jordan River. The routine twoway commerce that has developed across that river and the summer visits of some 150.000 Palestinians to Israelioccupied territories are clear evidence of this progress. The real message is that kidnapping and murder of Israelis in Munich is not going to win sympathy for the Palestinian refugees in Syria or Lebanon. It Is and must be counterproductive and it has in fact. reduced the sympathy which has existed. There are legitimate grievances among the Palestinian refugees just as there are legitimate grievances among the peoples of Northern Ireland. But violence only delays. not advances. recognition and redress of these grievances.
