They are: the Order of Ahepa. the Daughters of Penelope. the senior womens auxiliary. the Sons of Pericles. the junior young mens auxiliary. and Maids of Athena. the junior young womens auxiliary. The Order was founded on July 26. 1922. in Atlanta. Ga.. and during its early years was composed primarily of GreekAmericans who had recently immigrated to the United States. During those years. the members concentrated on assisting their newly arrived countrymen in adjusting to their new American environment. In Wilmington. for instance. the local chapter assisted in obtaining citizenship papers for the fellow countrymen and was largely responsible for organizing the Greek Orthodox Church.
