I rise in support of the observance of Captive Nations Week. a week when we here in Congress and Americans throughout the Nation pause to reflect upon the plight of over 100 million East and Central Europeans who live under the tyranny of communism. The 1972 observance of Captive Nations Week. the 13th anniversary of this event. is of particular importance. In light of the recent riots in Lithuania. the driver for emigration to Israel by the Soviet Jewry. and the reported cultural and religious repressions in the Ukraine. there can be little doubt that the urge for freedom still burns among the captive people of Europe.
