Mr. Speaker. 50 years ago this month. AHEPA was formed. The acrostic stands for American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association. and it has done a remarkable job of helping Greek immigrants to become good Americans. It has also helped to engender in these people a pride in their ancestral homeland. It is the homeland from which all of us draw much of the culture and learning which surrounds us in our everyday lives. The architecture of this Capitol started with the Greeks. and Greece was the birthplace of government of the people. by the people. and for the people. AHEPA promotes a number of objectives. as its name suggests. but all of us can subscribe to its first aim: "To promote and encourage loyalty to the United States of America." The name.
