My subcommittee has held hearings on several proposals to provide death and disability compensation to policemen. firemen and their survivors and I hope to obtain action on an effective bill to help these dedicated public servants. At the international level. I was elected chairman of the 20th anniversary session of the Intergovernmental Committee for European Migration. the multination organization responsible for the resettlement of refugees. I was also honored this year by being elected chairman of the Scientific and Technical Committee of the NATO North Atlantic Assembly. At the Assemblys meeting next November we will take up several important matters of concern to the NATO nations. including my own report on measures undertaken and recommendations for cooperation in combating the illegal international traffic in narcotics.
