Session #92 · 1971–73

Speech #920221998

As a cosponsor of a resolution passed by the House to encourage the relief of Soviet Jewry. I know that many of us here in the Congress have tried to impress upon the Soviet Government that any meaningful detente must include an easing and hopefully an abandonment of these oppressive policies. Americans are a justiceoriented people and we do not abide officially sanctioned persecution of those who want to practice their religion or want to emigrate. In discussing our efforts to try to ease the plight of Soviet Jewry. I want to cite the work of so many citizens who are giving of their own time and money.
