The total authorization of $917 million is $43 million over the budget request and is $135 million more than was appropriated for these agencies in fiscal 1972. The $43 million increase over the fiscal 1973 budget request is accounted for by the committees action to support an $85 million authorization to assist in the resettlement of Jewish and other refugees from the Soviet Union. The committees action on all of these money items is spelled out in the report. and by and large. the administration fared rather well. given the serious reservations that a number of members of the committee have about our foreign affairs establishment.
