Session #92 · 1971–73

Speech #920206705

Speaker. as a sponsor of a similar resolution I wish to support the bill before us today and express my concern for Soviet treatment of its Jewish citizens. There is ample evidence that Jews in the Soviet Union suffer discrimination in a number of ways. They have been forbidden the free practice of their religion. they are not allowed to leave the country to emigrate to other countries. and they have been systematically excluded from the Soviet Government. Last year more than 100 colleagues of both parties expressed their concern by supporting a House resolution for congressional action. The day for that action is before us now.
