Hundreds of thousands of Soviet Jews want above all the opportunity to join their families abroad. In the past. free people around the world have expressed their concern about the treatment of Soviet Jews. From time to time. a glimmer of hope was kindled. as small concessionsoften temporarywere granted. Yet. only recently. with thousands of their number permitted to emigrate to Israel. could we take encouragement for our efforts of the past. For many of us have been deeply involved in this cause for many years. This is why. as cochairman of the Democratic Platform Committee in 1946 and again in 1968.
