I had the privilege of knowing the highly respected Salvatore Camelio and his wonderful family for many years. His distinguished son. Augustus Camelio. was an assistant attorney general when I served as Massachusetts Attorney General. Sal Camelio. as he was affectionately known. immigrated from his native Italy as a child. He began his career as a rubber worker. and served as first president of the Boston Local 25 of the United Rubber Workers. He was active in the founding of the CIO. served on the WageLabor Board in World War II. and contributed to the merger of the AFL and CIO in 1958.
