Session #92 · 1971–73

Speech #920173832

I feel that since they have that desire. we have an obligation to assist them until such time as they are able to do it on their own. Thus. I do not think that we can set an arbitrary limit on how long it takes for a family -to make these adjustments. It cannot be said that 3 years is long enough to make this new beginning in every case. There are many cases that require continued support. Nor do I believe that we should cut back on expenditures to these refugees. I believe that the Presidents original request of $139 million should be restored. We. the nation of liberty. have extended our hand to those who flee from tyranny.
