Session #92 · 1971–73

Speech #920084420

We must reverse the trend of farm foreclosures or farmers selling out for paltry sums after years of honest toil because they can no longer meetthe payments todays heavily capitalized farming demands. There is more than just a consumer stake in guaranteeing loans to farmers. Unless we assure the farmers of our Nation who produce the food and fiber we use they can stay on his farm. the headlong rural to urban migration will continue. Many of these rural migrants wind up in the ghettos because they are ill prepared for city life. As a matter of fact. more of the ghetto residents were born in rural America than there are lifelong ghetto residents. Farmers are proud of their farm credit system.
