Session #92 · 1971–73

Speech #920061018

Mr. Speaker. it is to be hoped that a satisfactory degree of calm has been established in the controversy over the East Pakistan refugee problem. There has Ueen altogether too much agitation in the press on this subject. much of it biased and hostile to the established Government of Pakistan. The exodus of the refugees was indeed an unfortunate situation and it is to be hoped that they are now encouraged to return and will be appropriately provided for when they recross the border. There is no better way to bring about a proper understanding between East and West Pakistan. The morning press indicated that India has established troop concentrations along the IndiaPakistan border contrary to treaty agreement.
