In East Europes continuing struggle to free itself from Russian domination. this country has suffered greatly. struggling for freedom and praying that the determination of its people will prevail. June 15. 1940. was the beginning of mass deportation of native Lithuanians to settlements far away from their beloved homeland. The reason for Stalins cruel methods was to quiet the resistance of the large revolutionary population by simply transporting them to "safe" areas inside the Soviet Union. Today. the scars of broken families combined with continuous terror by the secret police are ever present in Lithuania.
