President. recent events throughout the country have. among other things. underscored the need for flexible and responsive law enforcement. The need for qualified young people in law enforcement continues to grow. In the Department of Justice. however. there are a number of highly specialized law enforcement positions to which appointments are made in the competitive Civil Service. Section 3307 of title 5. United States Code. presently prohibits the Attorney General from fixing age limits for original appointments to these positions. although he feels such limits are extremely important. The positions in question are: Border Patrol Agent. Immigration and Naturalization Service. Criminal Investigator. Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs.
