Mr. Speaker. in June 1940. the Russians overran Lithuania. Latvia. and Estonia and conducted a mass deportation to Siberia which caused the death of thousands of innocent people. Once more. I wish to pay tribute to the gallant freedomloving peoples of these Baltic States who lost their independence 30 years ago and became captive nations of Soviet communism. For these beleaguered men and women. the dream of liberty still remains. and as long as freedom exists anywhere in the world. and as long as we here in the free world continue to give them encouragement to persevere. I know that these courageous people will not abandon their hope for liberation.
