Session #92 · 1971–73

Speech #920005842

Mr. President. last week I addressed the Senate concerning a growing number of complaints from Czech and Slovak immigrants to the free world about a despicable blackmail scheme being perpetrated by the puppet Communist government of Czechoslovakia. The scheme simply is to notify many of the 70.000 emigrees in the free world that criminal proceedings have been initiated against them for leaving the country. They are informed that they are being tried in absentia. Threats are made against their property and their families. Then they are told that to minimize their problems they should send hard cash back to Czechoslovakia to pay for legal fees in their defense.
