The declaration has been used as a basis. for requesting the Government of South Africa to suspend the enforcement of the Group Practices Act and to reconsider -its policies of apartheid. A Convention of the Status of Refugees was convened in Switzerland in 1951. it came into force in 1954 granting equality. justice and humane treatment to refugees. This was in large part inspired by the declaration. The International Labor Conference adopted a Convention on the Abolition of ForcedLabor in June of 1957. ratified as of 1961 by 40 nations.
