Session #91 · 1969–71

Speech #910328626

In that year Senator HOLLAND extended an invitation to me to come to the great State of Florida to learn about this problem firsthand. I accepted that invitation and went to Florida to talk to the worker. to the farmer. and to the crewleader. I visited clergymen and community leaders. I saw the housing camps and the schools in which migrant children were enrolled. Out of that work. legislation was drafted to meet the need for crewleader registration. child daycare centers. family health clinics. education for the migrant children. and adequate housing for the migrant family. Senator HOLLAND made invaluable suggestions for improving these bills. He also supported them eloquently and persuasively when they came to the Senate floor for consideration and debate.
