George Ball and the leading Soviet figures. I was pleased to participate in this conference. This experience adds even more to my sense of shock and amazement at the inconsistencies of the State Departments action in this Instance where a delegate to a United Nations conference to be held in the U.S. is denied a visa solely qn .the grounds that he is a trade union leader. It was made quite clear to me by the Stkate Department that this was not g decisionagalinst the individual. but it would have applied to any official designee of the Soviet trade union. I shall be most grateful if you will call this matter to the attention of Senator Fulbright with the urgent* request that he and thisCommittee on Foreign Relations inquire into this matter.
