In his will. dated September 17. 1895. he directed "that there be established and maintained in the city of Philadelphia a college for the promotion of and instruction in the Hebrew and cognate languages and their respective literatures." He also directed "that in the admission of students there shall be no discrimination on account of creed. color or sex." The charter was granted to the college on June 6. 1907. under the name of The Dropsie College for Hebrew and Cognate Learning. this name being selected by the Governors as a memorial to the founder. The Dropsie University is approved by the Department of Public Instruction of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. and accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. It also is approved for the training of veterans under all public laws and for the attendance of nonimmigrant students under the Immigration and Nationality Act.
