I thank my colleague for his comments and his cosponsorship of this bill. I would like to express my agreement with the viewpoints expressed by my senior colleague with reference to the tragedy in the Middle East and the tragedy of the Arab situation. particularly that of the Palestinian refugees. I might say that the hostilities. bitterness. and hatred in the Middle East have escalated almost to the point of no return. and this is a potential disaster for mankindi There is great danger of a confrontation in the Middle East between the great powers. and not just a confrontatidn of wills. but a. military confrontationone which we all want to avoid. We mustd&al ith -this ioblem in humanterms. and I might say to my senior colleagueI am sure that he has heard many expiessions of this nature hiinselfbut wfheri I was in Israel a year ago. the- Very top leadership of Iifabl Mrs.. d6di"i Meir. snd others. ekpressed their grief. their unliappineSs. and their sadneis over the plight of the Palestinian refugees.
