In 1911. after returning to fixed winged aircraft. he built the S5. and set a new world record by carrying three men for 30 miles at seventy miles an hour. This success brought about a contract with the RussoBaltic Railroad Car Works. which enabled Sikorsky to build the first fourmotored plane in history. the Grand. After fleeing Russia during the Revolution. Sikorsky was faced with the situation of having to start from scratch and and begin anew as an immigrant in the United States. Beginning on Long Island. he shortly afterward moved to Bridgeport. Conn.. and established the Sikorsky Aviation Corp.
