Session #91 · 1969–71

Speech #910244675

Consequently. these people were laid off from their jobs and lost what little Income they had. Once these people lose their source of income or become overburdened with medical expenses and repair bills. a dreadful spiral begins which often results in eviction .from their homes. repossession of their personal property and the ruination of their credit. Having lost everything. disaster victims. such as the Mexican Americans of Lubbock. are forced to leave the communities which have been their homes for many years and become wandering migrants. The amendments that I am offering today will fill a gap that has existed for many years in our disaster assistance laws and provide the type of relief that will enable many disaster victims to retain their place in the community. As a cosponsor and strong supporter of S. 3619.
