Session #91 · 1969–71

Speech #910243932

There has not been a single instance. as far as they know. as far as the Federal Bureau of Investigation knows. not a single instance of any sabotage or espionage on the part of a resident Japanese or a Japanese American in the United States before. during. or since Pearl Harbor. Now. I have one or two letters I would like to read just to indicate how some of the people we are talking about. pleading for. feel about this thing. There are two terms that have been used quite often this morning. I would like to clarify them. The term "issei" means the Immigrant Japanese who came from Japan to the United States. The term "nisei" means American citizens of Japanese descent. Then I would like to Introduce the term "hanseL." That means half nisel.
