Speech #910235828

But time will run out. I emphasize that I am against the amendment. anyway. in substancetotally opposedbecause I think it is wrong in principle. I believe that the entire question of Asiatic communism and what we are going to do about it depends on questions we decide about this war. Now. to think that someone will bring up an amendmentwith all deference to whoever it wasin one afternoon. and we go over a weekend. and vote by agreement at a certain time. to try to settle those things on the meritsand voting on it should be on the meritswe are cutting at the bark rather than getting into the substance of the subject matter. with these grave matters pending and men going to their deaths every day in this war. which everyone wants to end. and which we are all trying to end. But I think we are going off at tangents and on the wrong foot. and we are going to pay in a frightful way.
