Speech #910224365

First and foremost. because we all feel a kinship with our fellow human beings and commiserate with those who have been hurt. injured. unjustly deprived of their Godgiven freedom or been murdered. The event I recall today is the sad 30th anniversary when the people of Lithuania. Latvia. and Estoniaall Baltic nations lost their freedom and independence. The hordes of Soviets invaded those countries during June 1940. and enslaved their populations and started a vicious process of deportation. extermination. and annihilation. These genocidal operations continued unabated with the result that onefourth of the entire population of these once proud and independent nations are now lost. If ever there were people that deserved the tributes of mankind. it is the men and women of Lithuania.
