Session #91 · 1969–71

Speech #910224354

Mr. Speaker. we are today. once again reminded of those who have been subjugated by the Soviet Union into positions of slavery. Today is Baltic Nations Freedom Day. the 30th anniversary of the deportation of thousands of citizens of Estonia. Latvia. and Lithuania. by the Soviets in an effort to destroy these three independent nations. which had so briefly tasted the joys of true freedom. These efforts to destroy the sense of nationality. of cultural and ethnic unity of these nations continues to this day. Under the circumstances. I believe it is appropriate that we be reminded to these struggles. and renew our efforts and hopes that these three small nations will once again have the freedom they so richly deserve. and so earnestly desire.
