Ben Tre. a city of 35.000 population in the Mekong Delta. following the time that it has been occupied by the VC. was destroyed methodically by American fire power during 48 terrible hours. This little city was utterly demolished by American bombs. napalm. shells and rockets. More than 10.000 civilianswomen. children. babies. and old menwere killed. including some thousands of refugees who had fled to the city for safety. Nobody knows how many thousands of civilians were killed because entire families were permanently buried in the rubble. "It became necessary to destroy the city to save it." This was a shameful episode in the history of the Armed Forces and of our country. Now. next on the order of atrocities comes Mylai where hundreds of old men. women. children. and babies were shot to death.
