Session #91 · 1969–71

Speech #910105886

Mr. President. this year marks the 100th anniversary of the first immigration to this country of persons of Japanese ancestry. This group has made outstanding contributions to Americas progress since their arrival here. In Oregon. we have been fortunate to have such individuals as Ray T. Yasui serving on the Hood River Board of Education and Roy Hirai serving on the States potato commission. It is with contributions such as these in mind that I ask unanimous consent to have printed in the RECORD a brief history of the Japanese in Hood River. Oreg.. as we celebrate the centennial anniversary of the first Japanese immigration to the United States.
