The results of this operation have been mixed. I understand that in the United States drug prices have increased. which would seem to indicate that Operation Intercept is stemming the flow. at least temporarily. especially of marihuana. In some cities the price doubled within a few days. But these shortrange benefits must be balanced against the ill will created among the inconvenienced travelers. mostly Mexican. and a sharpening of the drug debate at home.
