While obviously this centennial celebration is of unusual significance for American citizens of Japanese ancestry. it Is also important for all Californians and all Americans. for the contributions of Japanese Americans to our way of life have been great indeed. In a recent issue of the Pacific Historian. the publication of the University of the Pacific in Stockton. there appeared a feature article written by Henry Taketa describing this centennial year. Mr. President. I ask unanimous consent that this article be printed in full in the RECORD. together with a proclamation signed by Governor Reagan to honor this firstrecognized settlement of Japanese immigrants to the United States.
