Leaders of Communist China have in the past expressed disinterest in joining the United Nations. However. the United States should urge the chiefs of state of those nations which have heretofore recognized Red China and are presently enjoying lucrative trade with that huge nation to join with us in offering a place in the United Nations to this huge nation which we have been so myopic as to disregard altogether or treat as an outlaw. Ambassador Edwin Reischauer. former Ambassador to Japan and one of our great Asiatic experts. has been proposing for some years that our Government accord recognition to Communist China and sponsor its admission to the United Nations. Of course this corrupt warlord. Chiang Kaishek. who has been subsidized over the years by our taxpayers. will cry out in rage against our recognition of Red China. against reopening trade channels with Red China. against any attempt whatever by the United States to improve relations with the Peking government.
