Yet despite the critical state of Immigration from Ireland. the country hardest hit by the revised categories of the 1965 act. and the large number of cosponsors of this legislation. there has yet been no action by the Immigration and Nationality Subcommittee of the Committee on the Judiciary on this legislation. Last July 3 a hearing was held. and Members of Congress and representatives of concerned groups voiced support for the bill. At that time John Collins. national chairman of the American Irish National Immigration Committee. urged its adoption. He said: We urgently request that you support and favorably report out of committee a bill sponsored by over 38 Congressmen. This bill.
