Speech #910002812

Imagine. if you can. a heritage which includes being treated at a thinga chattelan item of property for purchase and sale. Imagine. if you can. a heritage which encompasses family life created and terminated at the whim and pleasure of a masteran owner. Perhaps it might help you to conceive of the enormity of that injustice if you compare It with treatment accorded your parents. or grandparents. or greatgrandparents. who came here as immigrants. and who were subjected to various forms of discriminationboth obvious and subtlewho were called names dripping with contemptnames designed to foster a feeling of inferiority. Do some of you. even today. resent slurt on ethnic origin? Do some become incensed by innuendos about "Mafia"-"Cosa Nostra"?-feel that some doors are not quite as openor suspect that opportunities are not quite as available?
