A former congressional chaplain has been quoted as saying that if all men lived a life like JOHN McCORMACKS there would be no need for chaplains. His personal life as well as his career is an inspiration to all those privileged to know him and serve with him. The son of a Boston bricklayer and grandson of an immigrant who had fled the Irish potato famine. JOHN lost his father on the eve of his graduation from grammar school. In order to support his mother and two younger brothers. he left school to work for $3 a week as a messenger for Western Union. and earned additional wages on Sundays. delivering newspapers.
