Session #90 · 1967–69

Speech #900288324

I rise at this time to call the attention of my colleagues to a special order which I took last night after a rather lengthy session in which I outlined my reasons for introducing legislation to establish a commission of eight members. four from this body and four from the other body. to investigate matters relating to the assassinations of Dr. Martin Luther King. Jr.. and Senator Robert F. Kennedy. In this connection. Mr. Speaker. I am particularly interested in the study by Members of this House that would review the following items: U.S. immigration laws. passport and visa regulations procedures. U.S. treaties on extradition. laws or agreements covering international police cooperation. and the vulnerability of our international borders and shores. And of more particular interest the possibility of conspiracy involving nationals of foreign countries and/or U.S. citizens in an effort to commit crime in this country and arrange for escape of criminals to other nations.
