Session #90 · 1967–69

Speech #900263415

Speaker. today marks the 28th anniversary of the date upon which illegal aggression trampled down the freedom and independence of the Baltic States. Lithuania. Latvia. and Estonia enjoyed the blessings of liberty for two decades before seeing their liberties snuffed out by the armed force of an invading army. On this day. all Americans recall the fate of these three brave nations. Even more. we remember the cruel and inhuman deportations of Lithuanians. Latvians. and Estonians to Siberia between 1941 and 1949. Over 200.000 human beings were transported to that desolate part of the earth by the government which had placed them in captivity.
