Session #90 · 1967–69

Speech #900235391

Mr. Speaker. I would like to associate myself with the remarks of the distinguished gentleman from New York on this matter of immigration because it is quite apparent now that the law we passed a few years ago was a very unfair law. and it discriminates against many countries In the northern part of Europe. particularly Ireland. This law. which will take full effect. as I understand. on July 1 of this year. will reduce the number of people who come to our country from Ireland below a figure of 100 per year. It seems to me that the Congress never intended such a harsh result to take effect.
