Session #90 · 1967–69

Speech #900209649

Now we watch to see how well the life of a torn country can be put back together again. The figures used to calculate the number of dead and wounded. and the property destroyed. in no way measure the human misery and sorrow that remain. The pacification program has come to a standstill. More than 500.000 refugees. added to an uncertain but very large number. must now be cared for. Against the background of these events. it appears that there are strong pressures for increasing U.S. troop strength in Vietnam. No one seems to be sure how many are involvedperhaps 50.000. perhaps 200.000. perhaps even more.
